Rebecca, this story is fascinating and inspirational. I’m going to read all of your posts, probably one a day, to get a better feel for the author behind the words. From what little I know about you, you carry a great burden (I don’t know what it is, but I’m gonna go with my gut on this one). Thanks for sharing.

I love this project, and would love to "catch up" but I have to be realistic. Right now I am behind in pretty much everything and refuse to hand myself another thing to worry about. However, I fully intend to meet you on the road, so to speak, at some point on this literary world tour.

You painted a wonderful picture of your father! The 16 languages bit reminded me of my great-grandfather, who was also a Habsburgian intellectual with a colorful back story. When he came to the US at the beginning of the 20th century, he put his linguistic prowess to work as an interpreter at People's Gas in Chicago. I'd be curious to compare Dedka Jan's language list with that of Makkai Adam.
