I have been reading Clementine: The Life of Mrs. Winston Churchill for, uh, three plus years? But I haven't picked it up in months now, so I may need to start over. I like it! It is interesting! I just started it pre-pandemic and then I couldn't read anything of substance for a long time and keep reaching for fiction instead.

Though in English, I can't recommend more emphatically, "A Day in the Life of Abed Salama" (Nathan Thrall) for really understanding profoundly the effects of the occupation on Palestinians.

I have a pattern of starting books that are too wonderfully written to be devoured quickly, and then I lose the mood to give in to their spell. Currently in limbo: Radetzky March by Joseph Roth, in the original German (13 months); Olive Kitteredge by Elizabeth Strout (year and a half). Then there’s Gravity’s Rainbow, which I started in college, but that’s in the category of Books I Will Not Finish, I fear.
