I have a good friend who joined the Peace Corps when he graduated college in 1990, and they actually placed him in recently de-Iron Curtained Hungary, as a librarian at Central European University. He because quite fluent in Hungarian and completely agrees with you. Hard as hell, but learning it brings with it a great sense of accomplishment. (He now lives in Vienna and works all over Europe.)
Thank you for this. I had an English teacher in high school who hated yeah in lieu of yes. She also forbade the use of: got, and 'a lot'. She would say: "a lot is a plot of ground, a great deal or a great amount is something to take recognition of for its abundance." I am paraphrasing but I still to this day cannot use 'a lot' to mean a significant amount. The one I really hate to receive via text: yup. Thanks for the clarification yes, yeah, yea. I enjoyed the post as always.
I hate ya too. It reads lazy to me, but I could just be old.
Oh thank you for this. Yes, yes, a thousand times yes! I love you even more now.
Oh this is a peeve of mine too. Thank you for enlightening the people!
Omg yas kween!!! jk
Wait, what? Let's go Rangers? Noooooooo.....
Your "yea" and various other forms of mangling "yeah" is my "Superbowl." IT'S TWO WORDS! TWO!
Thank you! As a copy editor, this is definitely one of my "peeves." LOL
Well, yeah.
